Contact us when you or a project you are involved in is planning to collect and archive research material, so we can discuss whether the material can be archived in the SLS archive and what should be considered in the planning. We can also co-operate in the collection process.
We accept donations of materials collected in the course of scientific research, such as questionnaires, recordings, photographs, databases, documents or other materials collected by researchers.
We annually announce fieldwork grants that can be used for fieldwork that will be carried out, for example, in connection with a MA thesis or a doctoral dissertation. Priority is given to academic endeavours, but in some cases, grants may also be awarded for other collection work.
Applications may concern interviews, recordings, photographs, surveys or other planned documentation. You can use the material in your research and it will be archived with us to make it available to others.
We offer recording equipment and guidance to those who receive a grant.
The grant is taxable and is paid in two instalments: half when you sign your contract and half after you submit the material. The amount of material to be submitted will be agreed in more detail once you have been granted a fee, but could for example consist of
Along with the material, you should also submit a field diary or other documentation on how the material was collected. Other collection methods or material types can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
Is your organisation planning to collect material for an anniversary, a publication, an exhibition or a project? Contact us.
We welcome suggestions for current collection projects that can be implemented in co-operation with associations and organisations. Joint material collection can be done through questionnaires or appeals. To make the collection relevant and descriptive for the whole of Swedish Finland, we may broaden the questions.
We prioritise collaborative partners who have a concrete plan for how the collected material is to be used.
